Crossmolina Flood Relief Scheme part of OPW investment programme

Deputy Michelle Mulherin has welcomed confirmation that the Crossmolina Flood Relief Scheme will be funded as part of the OPW's €430 million capital investment programme. Dep Mulherin said: "This is excellent news, I arranged for Junior Minister Simon Harris to visit Crossmolina and meet with local residents and businesses where he heard first hand the stories of destruction and devastation which visited locals when the River Deel burst its banks in 2006. The need for this scheme is something I have been pressing for some time now and I am glad to say progressing it has been a priority under this Government. The inclusion of this scheme in the Capital Investment Programme by Minister Harris will ensure it is actually delivered and built."

Taoiseach Enda Kenny has said that €181,000 being provided for community centres in Mayo will be put to extremely good use. This is part of a €3.2 million funding announcement by the Department of Social Protection to support the operation of community centres and facilities for 91 not-for-profit companies nationally.

Funding for new Castlebar pool approved and ready to roll

The Taoiseach Enda Kenny, along with Minister Michael Ring, today approved €7,695,000 for the construction of the new Swimming Pool and National Outdoor Pursuits Centre in Castlebar. Speaking at the signing the Taoiseach said, "Castlebar has waited over 30 years for a new swimming pool and I am delighted that we are now very close to the construction phase. This state of the art  4,000 sq/m complex will contain an eight lane 25m pool along with a learner pool, gymnasium, aerobics studio and associated facilities. I want to thank Minister Ring for working closely with myself and his department on this project. This is a state of the art facility and will be among the best in the country."

NRA ‘insensitive’ in not rebuilding tragic wall in Kilrickle

THE National Roads Authority is being insensitive in not rebuilding a vital roadside wall knocked during a fatal accident in the centre of Kilrickle some years ago, according to Labour Senator Lorraine Higgins.
