Mayo associations world convention to take place in Belmullet

Muintir Mhaigh Eo Atha Cliath have announced the 2016 World Convention is scheduled to take place from April 29 to the May 1 at the Broadhaven Bay Hotel, Belmullet. This event which is hosted every two years by one of the Mayo Associations globally provides the network of associations scattered across the globe an opportunity to connect, network and strengthen ties  with each other. The convention will ensure the associations continue to remain strong, vibrant, and purposeful at a time when more and more Mayo people are emigrating and building roots away from their home county and in need of support from the Mayo diaspora. The Association will officially launch the world convention for 2016 at Knock Airport this evening, Friday April 1 at 7.30 pm. Friends and supporters of the Association at home and away are cordially invited to attend the launch.

Parsons proud to lead Mayo victory

Seven years ago, Tom Parsons was the last Mayo man to lift the JJ Fahy Cup when he captained Mayo to win the Connacht U21 title against Sligo. It has been a rollercoaster few years in between for the Charlestown man, and last Sunday he captained Mayo once more, this time for the first time he led out the senior side for their win against Roscommon in Hyde Park. "For me that's something magic, you know, I mean three years ago I was up in Croke Park on Hill 16 looking down at the boys as a supporter, it's something magic to captain this team any day. It's the first time that I got to captain the Mayo senior team in any competition and to come up here and get a win, it was a big one for us."

Clerics in Mayo will this weekend bless the county’s roads in a novel ceremony aimed at creating road safety awareness in a bid to reducing the number of people who die in traffic accidents each year. Early Years Inclusion day a big success

Mayo County Childcare Committee and the Mayo Early Intervention Service held a very successful seminar in Knockranny house hotel Westport last month. The seminar was entitled 'Early Years Inclusion Day' - Practical ways to include all children'. Dr. Geraldine French , the noted specialist in early childhood education gave an inspiring key note address to begin the day. Over 120 early childhood care and education practitioners then attended three workshops for the rest of the morning.

Wristcrafts from Gaelcholáiste Chomáin, Ros Dumhach and Simply Achill from Coláiste Pobail , Achill were acclaimed as joint winners of the Údarás na Gaeltachta – Company of the Year Regional Final, which was held in Arás Inis Gluaire, Belmullet recently. 150 Students from five secondary schools in the Gaeltacht region in Mayo competed in final, showcasing a range of innovative business ideas, which were created by the young entrepreneurs.
