Large turnout on Clare Island as early turn out low across rest of the county

The turnout in Mayo for polling on the Fiscal Compact Referendum was slow yesterday morning as drizzle replaced the sunshine the county had been used to in the previous week. However on Clare Island, where voting took place on Tuesday, the turnout was at 52 per cent according to the office of Fintan Murphy, the returning officer for Mayo.
