A new report from the Western Development Commission which analyses previously unreleased Census data to present an in-depth study of travel to work patterns in Castlebar and the surrounding areas, has come up with some findings that those working in the Castlebar area commute more than the State average; that women account for the highest proportion of those employed in Castlebar town, and that education, health, and social work are the main sectors in which people are employed in the Castlebar catchment area.

Workers to be balloted over hygiene standards in Mayo General

The non-nursing support staff at Mayo General hospital are to ballot over the coming week over possible industrial action over the falling standards of hygiene in the hospital. The workers are concerned about the standard of hygiene in the hospital and its decline over the past number of years. SIPTU official and Mayor of Castlebar, Cllr Michael Kilcoyne told the Mayo Advertiser that the staff concerns have become so grave they have been left with no choice but to ballot to raise the issue for the safety of all patients in the hospital.

Horkan’s Lifestyle and Garden Centre — phase two official opening

Today, Friday October 2, sees the official opening of the expansion at Horkan’s Lifestyle and Garden Centre in Turlough.
