It won't be a green Christmas

Santa Claus has come and gone for the Green party. Good old Saint Nick delivered them into a government coalition, giving them seats at the cabinet table, chauffeur driven cars, a handful of ministerial announcements and a brand new fold away bicycle for Sergeant Trevor that fits comfortably in the boot of a state car.

Battle Commences - The ground troops arrive

As the candidate list began to clarify itself, there were clear signs of political spring last Saturday as the ground forces arrived in the village. Not any old village of course, but rather the heart of St Patrick’s parish in the city. Such a moniker is a lot to measure up to, nevertheless he takes it in his considerable stride and smiles as he recalls how it came into being at an u-16 training session many moons ago.

Election fever

Maybe “fever” is too strong a word for it, but where are they? There are only a few weeks to go and I've only had three canvassers calling to the house: Sean Butler, John Coonan and the sister-in-law, Betty Manning. Betty may not even have been canvassing, she may have just called for a chat and a coffee. Does calling to the door or putting up life size posters make any difference? I'm not sure, but at least when you look out you can recognise the person and you know it's not someone casing the house for a future robbery (you hope).

GI Joe takes no prisoners

Local politics seems to be getting very interesting as the new members find their feet and learn how to knock others off theirs. GI Joe has hit the chambers like a whirlwind and he seems to be taking no prisoners.
