Winter League competitions see good scoring

In last weekend’s competition John Parsons was the winner with a score of 38pts, he finished two in front of Bob Leggett in second place. John O’Connor came home in third place, also on 36pts. The ladies’ competition was won by Geraldine O’Malley who scored 34pts, her play on the back nine kept her in front of Nora Heraty in second place and Catherine McNulty was back in third place on 33pts.

Flooding concerns for councillors following downpour

A number of councillors expressed their concerns about flooding that occurred on Monday after the first heavy shower of rain of the winter. Fine Gael councillor Johnny O’Malley told the meeting: “I’m very concerned about the flooding in Newport today. There was a lot of money spent there recently and it has flooded again. I got a call at 10am this morning about this from a person and I spent a couple of hours trying to get in touch with someone in the council to get some pumps or something in, but I could not get anyone. At 1pm I went over there myself and I could see how bad it had got for the people, we need to have something done again on it.”
