Oughterard Golf Club beat Strandhill Golf Club 4/1 in a dramatic final of the Junior Cup held in their home club at the weekend. Loughrea Golf Club beat Galway Bay Golf Club 3/2 in the Pierce Purcell Cup, while Galway Golf Club beat Athlone Golf Club by six holes in the Barton Shield and Co Sligo Golf Club 3/2 in the final of the Senior Cup.

AN EVENING of Loughrea's best songwriting talent will take place in the Loughrea Hotel and Spa on Sunday at 7pm. The event is run by the Emerging Network of Independent Galway Musicians and Artists (ENIGMA). The aim of the evening is to showcase local talent with the objective of getting each performer into the Irish charts. The free event will feature Ultan Conlon, Neev Kennedy, Wokajo, Una MacLochlainn, and James Finnegan. They will each be releasing a single on the evening. Audience members will be asked to download a song on their phones from each performer so have some credit in your phones, all proceeds will be donated to charity.

•A new race on the Galway athletic calendar has been scheduled for Castledaly in south Galway on Sunday (2pm). Organised with co-operation from Craughwell AC and AAI approved, the race will be run on the Gort to Loughrea road, with race headquarters at the local St Thomas GAA Club. This race is being organised in support of AIDS Partnership with Africa, a charity with which many locals have become actively involved.
