Seven deadly sins of beauty
As shocking as this is going to sound, I have found a replacement for my beloved Bobbi Brown shimmer brick. The girls on the counter are still reeling. And even more shocking, it was love at first sight.
After last week’s column on make-up addictions, my inbox was inundated with mail. It seems every woman has a few items that cross the line in her kit from a mere like to a love. Personally I think everything you have in your make-up kit or wardrobe should be a ‘love’. Life is too short for ‘likes’.
Lips are top of the make-up agenda this season. You too can make a bold statement with a strong, attention grabbing colour like model and mum Miranda Kerr. She stole the show on the red carpet during Paris Fashion week. Allowing her lips to do the talking she kept the rest of her look simple and defined.
If you ever want to know what the very latest trends in cosmetics are, swing by the MAC counter in Brown Thomas. New on counter at the minute is the Wonder Woman collection, complete in comic book style packaging. It includes the supersized mineralised skin finish, eyeshadows, lipsticks, and powder blushers. Readers of this column will not be at all surprised to know my favourite item in this collection is the Reflex Glitter, in pearl and bronze. Though a plain and simple girl in most ways, and already owning four Bobbi Brown shimmer brinks, I could not resist this glitter. I tend to think glitter has mystical powers and improves all circumstances. This one is unreal. It can be used over a creamy eye shadow to add dimension or over cream blush to highlight. The sparkles practically dance on the skin, I love it. If you are baring your shoulders you can dust it over the tops of your arms (when a MAC make up artist suggests you to go sparingly, you know you may have gone a bridge to far with it in the past).
Is your skin looking dull and lifeless? If so, a spring brightening facial from the famous Creme de la Mer range may be just what you need.
The whole point of a make-up bag is that it should act as a kind of security blanket. You hope that the make-up you applied before you left the house (or the car as the case may be) lasts all day, but if it doesn’t you are prepared for any touch ups with the arsenal in your make-up kit. An over-full or disorganised bag brimming with 20 eye shadows and six lipsticks serves no useful purpose. Lots of items could/should stay at home, like your mascara (which should never be reapplied on top of old mascara), and your bottle of foundation (all you need is a smart compact for touch ups).
With colours ranging from flirty corals to blushing pinks, shimmering purples to striking reds, the new Glam Shine Reflexion collection from L’Oreal Paris promises to wake up your make-up bag.
For those suffering from World Cup saturation, the focus is starting to turn towards glamour, and just in time to get ready for the just finished Film fleadh, Arts Festival and famous Galway Races, during which the g Hotel is hosting a Best Hat Competition. The fashion world is buzzing about what’s coming over the next few months.
