Fianna Fáil TD Éamon Ó Cuív has welcomed the €300,000 allocation from Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) to upgrade stretches of the N59 between Bunnakill and Maam Cross, however he has repeated calls for the Galway County Council to ensure that improvement works at the national park near Letterfrack are undertaken.

Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology (GMIT) has awarded Honorary Fellowships to three outstanding individuals for their contribution to their communities and to regional development in the west.

Cian Mulligan, a student at GMIT’s National Centre for Excellence in Furniture Design and Technology in Letterfrack, has been ranked sixth in the Cabinetmaking World Skills Competition held in São Paulo, Brazil. Mr Mulligan also won a medallion for excellence due to his outstanding performance.

GMIT will hold its last open day of the academic year this Saturday, April 18, for secondary school students, parents, career teachers, and mature students. As some 6,000 CAO applicants have still not registered their course preferences, this event aims to help students make the right choices.
