Galway Community College has been meeting the educational needs of the city’s Junior Certificate and Leaving Certificate students for more than 45 years. The college is continually improving its facilities to serve the needs of all learners.

First and foremost, congratulations and well done to all. No matter how often this day may come to a family, the Leaving Certificate results are a landmark day for each son or daughter, indeed for the entire family. So, again, well done. 

The Michael F Dolan Student Business Awards were presented at Presentation College Athenry recently. The awards were presented to senior and junior Aaward winners who sat their Leaving Cert and Junior Cert in 2014.

The Galway Study Centre will offer two weeks of intensive revision during the Easter holiday period. Leaving Cert revision will take place during the first week of the holidays, from Monday March 31 to Saturday April 4, while the Junior Cert classes will be held from Tuesday April 7 to Saturday April 11. In addition, during the second week, a strictly supervised study programme will be available to Leaving Cert students.

Now that the CAO application is complete and the HEAR and DARE applications are under way, the next series of applications are for students with high standards of achievement in extracurricular pursuits such as sports, performance arts, and creative arts. For those currently studying in fifth year or transition year, this might be the right time to explore the opportunities and benefits your extracurricular pursuits can bring you when applying for a place at third level.

Following the success of the inaugural bonus points scheme last year, NUI Galway will again reward elite athletes with 40 CAO Performance Points in recognition of their skill, time and dedication in reaching the highest level of their chosen sport. This is an extension of NUI Galway’s current Elite Athlete Scholarship scheme which includes a subsistence grant, performance supports, gym membership and medical support.

Building on the success of the inaugural Creative Arts Performance Points scheme in 2014, NUI Galway is to again reward a limited number of students with exceptional achievements in selected disciplines in the creative arts with CAO ‘Performance Points’ for entry into undergraduate courses in the University. This is the only Creative Arts Scholarship Scheme of its kind offered by a university in Ireland.

The Galway Study Centre will be offering one week of intensive revision classes, from Monday December 29 and until Saturday January 3. This will be the 30th annual Christmas revision course to take place at the study centre.

Nothing comes easy in this life. It came down to some hard work and determination from students to produce another fine Leaving Certificate performance at the Galway Study Centre this year.
