A further €350,000 has been announced for work on Ballina’s greenway - the Monasteries of the Moy.
Munnelly wants money ring fenced for Killala projects
Fine Gael councillor Jarlath Munnelly has called for the proceeds of the proposed sale of 1.42 hectares of land owned by Mayo County Council in Killala to Killala Precision Components Ltd to be ring fenced for projects in the town.

BirdWatch Mayo, in conjunction with the Mayo Naturalist Field Club, is hosting a talk on the birds of Killala this Saturday November 29. The talk will take place at the Joe Keane Creative Centre, which is located opposite the entrance to the Round Tower, starting at 11am, and is followed by an outing to Killala Harbour and Ross Strand to view the birds of the area. The event will be for about four hours, participants are advised to wear suitable clothing and bring a flask and snack. The event is free of charge. Swedish company expects to hook Killala based seafood company
William Carr and Sons seafood business, which is based in Killala, was placed into receivership last week and, according to national reports, is expected to be sold to Swedish seafood group Mondi. Receiver Kieran Wallace of KPMG was appointed by Ulster Bank to takeover the company last Friday.

North Mayo to get a greenway along the Moy
There was good news for the north Mayo area with the announcement yesterday of an allocation of €250,000 seed money to begin construction on a 14 km greenway from Ballina to Killala along the River Moy. The greenway will incorporate an off road cycle track and walk and will incorporate a number of monasteries along the river. It is envisioned that this 14km stretch will be the first phase of a multi-phase greenway in the larger north Mayo area.

Nine Mayo heritage projects were approved for funding this week by Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Jimmy Deenihan under the Gaeltacht Built Heritage Jobs Leverage Scheme 2014. The total value of the nine projects in Mayo is €103,000. The successful projects were St Michael’s Church, Ballina: €7,000; Enniscoe House, Castlehill: €14,519; Killala Bathing House, Killala: €6,478; Lavelle’s Pharmacy, Killala: €7,100; Thomond House, Westport: €7,920; Holy Trinity Church, Westport: €14,983; Owenmore House, Correens: €15,000; Bridge House, Westport: €15,000; and Ballinafad House, Ballinafad: €15,000.
