After an uninspiring victory away to Corrib last weekend, this is a mouth-watering challenge. In last year's corresponding fixture in Cloonacauneen, the game was won in the final play with a superb 50 metre finish by Ciaran Dolan.

Castlebar lose unbeaten record

After last weekend’s adventures on the national stage it’s back to the basics of the Connacht Junior League for the Mayo sides in division 1A and 1B. Both Castlebar and Ballina bowed out of the All Ireland Junior Cup last weekend at the first round stage, with Westport the only Mayo side to progress to the next round of the competition. With four games to go for two of the Mayo sides in the league it’s do or die time as they try to finish in the top four of the exclusively junior sides to book their place in the All Ireland cup for next year.

Connacht kick-start their Junior Interprovincial Championship with an opening fixture against Ulster at Ballyhaunis on Saturday (2.30pm).

Once all the drama of the last day of the group stages of the Mayo club championships had been put to bed, only the third placed teams in the groups could rest on their laurels for the rest of the season, as the qualifiers into the last eight in of the various competitions and the bottom placed teams all waited to discover their fates.

Still in the hunt for a championship title, Connacht entertain Munster on Saturday in Headford at 2.30pm in the third and final round of the junior interprovincial rugby series.

Connacht achieved their best result in this year’s junior interprovincial rugby series with an 8 - 3 victory over Munster in Headford on Saturday.
