Budget 2013 —the breakdown

Ministers Noonan and Howlin were tasked with reducing the deficit in the country’s finances by €3.5bn in the Budget for 2013.  In their highly anticipated Budget speeches, they emphasised their aim to achieve this in a balanced and fair manner.  This has meant that they have cast the net widely and announced the following measures: 

Mayo AC/ Kitui, Kenya 5k

Thanks to all the people who were involved with the Mayo AC/ Kitui 5k Road Race held in Claremorris on Saturday September 22. The race was a wonderful success and €760 will be added to the Kitui Rescue Centre Fund operated by Kitui Development Centre, Kitui, where Janet Corbin Hinchion, a native of Claremorris, voluntarily works as co-ordinator of the centre.

Ballyhaunis 8K goes to the tape tomorrow

The Ballyhaunis 8k takes place next Saturday, September 29 at 4pm. This is race number seven in the Mayo Road league. Last year three former Irish Olympians took part, Jerry Kiernan, David Matthews and Noel Berkeley, who won the race in a fast time of 25:54. The women’s race was won by Mary Gleeson (Mayo AC) in 29:16. A large attendance is expected again this year.
