Business Impact Celebration reveals Mayo businesses contributed more than €450,000 to local charities and community groups in 2013

In Mayo in 2013, businesses donated a total of €458,011 in cash and in kind donations to local charities and community groups. More than 1,295 hours were volunteered by local employees and over 134 community partnerships were supported. This information is being captured by Business in the Community Ireland, on an online interactive map entitled the Business Impact Map which gives a county by county breakdown of how companies such as A&L Goodbody, ESB, Intel Ireland, Diageo Ireland and their employees supported their local community groups and charities during 2013.

New owners for Royal Theatre

The Royal Theatre Castlebar has new owners after hotel management and property companies, Islandeady Properties and Lansdowne Frances, agreed to purchase the properties. The acquisition includes The Royal Theatre, The Ruby Room, Mayo Conference Centre, TF Hotel, Harlequin Hotel (4 star), multi storey car park, and The Royal Quarter Retail Area incorporating Boots Chemists and other various retail stores, The Mosaic and other car parks.

Red Carnation Hotels purchased the four star Lisloughrey Lodge Hotel from receivers KPMG. Red Carnation Hotels had previously acquired the adjoining five-star Ashford Castle in 2013 and is currently undertaking a significant refurbishment and upgrading programme of the castle.

VAT 2014 and beyond

From 1 January 2014, businesses which have not paid for supplies (either in full or in part) within a six month period will be required to repay to Revenue the VAT previously reclaimed on these supplies. This is mainly an anti-fraud measure, however it is hoped that it will encourage prompt payments, thus increasing cash flow for suppliers, as we all know that cash is king!! Where the supplier is subsequently paid, the amount of deductible VAT can be reclaimed by the customer again. This is measured on a pro rata basis.
