No on-street car parking charges for Westport

Westport town councillors have voted against the introduction of on-street car parking charges, from April to October, which means that the €150,000 revenue needed to “balance the books” for the 2011 budget needs to be culled from expenditure.

The grants for national roads saw an increase of €7 million this year from the previous year, however the majority of the increase was to be spent on pavement improvements on the existing national road primary road structure and on national secondary roads. Mr Beirne told the meeting that while there was an increase in the overall grant there was no grant this year for the N26 scheme from Ballina and it has essentially been shelved for the year.
