Following advice from the Health Service Executive, Irish Water and Mayo County Council have lifted the boil water notice which was issued in October for the area supplied by the Ballycastle Public Water Supply and the Corrower/Sea Road and Lisbrin Group Water Schemes.

Ballina Municipal District councillors have agreed to communicate their thanks and appreciation to Minister for Rural and Community Development Michael Ring following the recent allocations for projects as part of the Town and Village renewal Scheme in the county. At a Municipal District meeting last week councillors were informed that all four projects in the county which had applied for funding were successful.

Celebrations were taking place in Killala recently following the official opening of the second phase of the Monasteries of the Moy Greenway by Minister for Community and Rural Affairs Michael Ring.

The elected members of the Ballina Municipal District refused to throw their full backing behind the potential sale of 26.13 hectares of land at Tawnaghmore Upper Killala (the old Asahi plant site), to a northern Irish based company for the construction of an IT services centre on the site. The councillors were presented with an item at their monthly meeting this week to endorse the disposal of the land for a potential figure of €2,582,689.20 to Derry based company Atlantic Gateway Ltd, if after a six to 12 month period of a feasibility study by the potential purchaser it was satisfactory for their needs.

Four years after a survey found the need for one, and after a number of false starts over the past 12 months, Castlebar finally saw the opening of an Educate Together school in the town. The school which opened its doors on Wednesday morning with 12 junior infants registered on the roll book is the second Educate Together school in the county.
