Four Kilkenny heritage projects have received grants under the Heritage Council Grant Scheme announced this week.

The owner of a newly discovered heritage sight at Newtown, Jerpoint, in Thomastown has come before the members of Kilkenny County Council in a bid to garner support from the local authority to develop the site into a tourist attraction.

National Heritage Week arose out of ‘European Heritage Days’ – an initiative to promote awareness of our built, natural and cultural heritage and to promote Europe’s common cultural heritage. In Ireland, National Heritage Week entails a whole week of heritage-related events.

Kilkenny’s story-tellers will have a chance to indulge in their art on National Tell Tale Day tomorrow (Saturday), as part of Heritage Week.

Heritage Week, a nationwide celebration of our natural, built and cultural heritage kicks off this year on Saturday August 20 and runs until Sunday August 28.
