Participants in this year’s Town of Tomorrow schools’ competition have an additional area on which to set their imaginations loose – the vast Westport convent site, which was recently acquired by Mayo County Council and Westport Town Council.

Google is making a final call for entries for its Doodle 4 Google creative art and design competition and is encouraging Westmeath primary and secondary schools to get involved.  Already 17 Westmeath schools have registered but there is still time to get involved as the final deadline for entries is December 12.

Mayo coffee drinkers urged to support Fairtrade

During Fairtrade Fortnight, which runs until March 8, Bewley’s master coffee roaster Paul O’Toole said that “Mayo coffee drinkers can make a real difference for communities in developing nations if they choose coffees that are Fairtrade certified, with Westport and Castlebar already ahead of many other cities and towns throughout Ireland as they have designated Fairtrade status.”
