Mayo young people win silver and bronze at Aldi Foróige Youth Citizenship Awards

The Aldi Foróige Youth Citizenship Awards took place in Citywest Hotel and Conference Centre recently where over 2300 young people from throughout Ireland showcased their work in the community. 204 groups took part in the awards with projects covering topics such as equality; homelessness; mental health; culture and much more.

Mayo youngsters raise money for children's ward recliners

Young people from Foróige's Big Brother Big Sister programme and Mayo Comhairle Na nÓg collaborated to raise almost €2,400 for the purchase of reclining chairs at the children’s wards of Mayo University Hospital. The chairs are intended for use by parents who are required to stay overnight with their sick children.

Mayo teens awarded certificates in youth leadership

Thirty-six Mayo teens have graduated from Foróige’s Leadership for Life Programme. The National University of Ireland Galway (NUIG) awarded the young people with a Foundation Certificate in Youth Leadership and Community Action last Saturday October 15. Two hundred and seventy young people in total graduated from the North and South of Ireland on Saturday having completed three modules in leadership. The programme develops the leadership capabilities and potential of young people and gives them an opportunity to harness their skills and attributes to contribute to their society in a fun and encouraging environment.

Blacksmithing and horse shoeing to be part of Féile Ballinfoile

A demonstration of shoeing a horse, a blacksmith’s forge, organic garden produce, scarecrows, cooking of food in an outdoor clay oven, bird watching tours, and a wooden toy-making workshop will all form part of the annual celebration of community, heritage, and the environment in Ballinfoile this weekend.

Mayo’s charities to benefit from Aldi support

Aldi Ireland recently announced a new programme to support local charities and not-for-profit organisations in Mayo as part of its 2016 community support programme. Each of Aldi’s two stores in Mayo has been provided with a bursary fund to be allocated annually to charities and not-for-profit community organisations operating within the local communities served by each store.
