Two new property reports out this week

This week saw the issuing of two major house price surveys with both the Daft.ie 2014 Year in Review House Price Report and the MyHome.ie Quarter Four Report on 2014. According to the Daft.ie report the average house price nationwide is €193,000 while the average house price in Mayo is €121,000. The four per cent increase recorded in Mayo in 2014 contrasts with a fall of 8 per cent a year ago. Average house prices in Mayo are still 54 per cent below their peak in 2007.

Survey finds salary expectations are on the up for 2015

A national survey carried out by one of Ireland’s leading recruitment agencies found that salary expectations among employees are getting higher, with 61 per cent of respondents saying they expect an increase in salary in 2015, up from 42 per cent in 2014. Matrix Recruitment Group, founded in Ireland in 1998, with offices in Athlone, Dublin, Galway, Waterford, and Carlow, surveyed 600 employees across a wide range of position types and industries.

Airport buy-in scheme still at due diligence stage

The proposed purchase of a major equity stake in Ireland West Airport Knock is currently at its due-diligence stage. The proposed purchase of a 17.5 per cent stake in the airport by seven local authorities (Mayo, Sligo, Leitrim, Roscommon, Donegal, and Galway county council and Galway city council) for €7.3 million has received backing in principal from all the seven local authorities so far. Last week saw Sligo County Council appoint the consultants who will carry out the due diligence investigations into the proposal, which would see the airport shed its current bank debt.
