Galway Study Centre Easter revision courses

The Galway Study Centre will offer two weeks of intensive revision during the Easter holiday period. Leaving Cert revision will take place during the first week of the holidays, from Monday March 31 to Saturday April 4, while the Junior Cert classes will be held from Tuesday April 7 to Saturday April 11. In addition, during the second week, a strictly supervised study programme will be available to Leaving Cert students.

The launch of the programme for the third Galway Food Festival was held on Monday in one of my favourite Galway hang out spots, the lovely House Hotel. The late lamented Gerry Gavin had launched the first festival programme and the delightful Máirín Uí Chomáin the second. This year Ronan Byrne (aka The Friendly Farmer) did the honours beautifully. In a break with convention, they had not sought out a food celebrity, but in keeping with the theme of the festival, 'Food Traditions', a man of the land was called for. JP McMahon, festival chairperson, and Heather Flaherty also spoke at the launch.

Janet’s Walk ‘Remembering Alan’ this Easter Monday

Durkan’s Gala store, Main Street, Louisburgh, is making final preparations for hosting Janet’s Walk on Easter Monday. The Durkan family has now dedicated this event to the memory of their son Alan, and Janet’s Walk ‘Remembering Alan’ will raise money for local charity Mayo Cancer Support Association at Rock Rose House. There is still time to sign up for this event which urges locals to get behind the initiative and walk, run, or cycle for this great charity cause.
