An Taoiseach Enda Kenny had a busy schedule around Castlebar on Monday, first launching the West Region Action Plan for Jobs alongside Minister for Jobs, Enterprise, and Innovation Richard Bruton in Cashin Print in Castlebar. The pair followed that with a tree planting ceremony at the IDA Advance facility on the Breaffy Road, which is due to see construction begin in quarter one of next year, before the Taoiseach paid a visit to the site of the new swimming pool and Outdoor Pursuits Academy at Lough Lannagh on which work began this week.

Fianna Fáil General Election candidate for Mayo Cllr Lisa Chambers has accused the Government of breaking yet another promise on broadband. As part of the Capital Investment Programme announced this week, Communications Minister Alex White pledged to spend €275m on the National Broadband Plan. Fianna Fáil has called upon the Taoiseach and other Mayo based Government representatives to meet the 60 Irish Pride workers who are set to lose their jobs. On Friday it was announced by Kieran Wallace and Shane McCarthy, the joint receivers for Irish Pride Bakeries, that they had negotiated the sale of the majority of the Irish Pride Bakeries' assets to Pat the Baker, but the transaction did not include the Irish Pride plant in Ballinrobe which would see its operations wound down as a result with the redundancy consultation beginning for those effected.
