As chairman of both the Town Commissioners and the Harbour Board, he supported J O Lever’s Galway Line, which was to run three state-of-the-art steam-sailing ships between Galway and New York, from a grandiose harbour to be built off Furbo. Passengers from Britain, and all over Ireland, would be delivered to the terminal by train. It was to be the most comfortable, and shortest, route to America.

Government must renew effort on promoting farm safety - Daly

Fianna Fáil Seanad Spokesperson on Agriculture, Food and Marine, Senator Paul Daly, has called on the Government to renew its effort in promoting safe practice on farms across Ireland. Senator Daly made the call during Farm Safety Week after securing a special debate in the Seanad on the matter.

Local woman Mary Daly, a member of the Multyfarnham Active Retirement Association participated in a photocall in Dublin recently to help launch the Trade and Tourism Show, organised by the national representative body Active Retirement Ireland (ARI). The Trade and Tourism Show will take place at the Citywest Hotel on Tuesday April 17. It will run from noon until 6pm, and is open to the public, free of charge.

New Irish film @ The Eye
