360° of the Reek at the Custom House

An exhibition of new works by Breda Burns, entitled 360° of the Reek, continues every day at Custom House Studios, The Quay, Westport, until May 10. Breda Burns is from Westport, inspired by a love of the place and people. Her dedication to the community has been marked by continued involvement with community and public art. She was a founding member of Westport Artist Studios group, and was active in the development of the Custom House Studios.

Leenavesta is a serenely beautiful townland nestled at the foot of the Sheaffrey Hills between the well known towns of Westport and Louisbourg. Croagh Patrick stands guard to the north and the Owenmore River threads its way though the valley as it flows down to join the Erriff. This is superb fishing country. Salmon, brown trout, and sea trout are the main quarry, but the sea angler also has Clew Bay, famous for its beauty and its international sea angling competition, within a few minutes’ drive.

The Mighty Mayo Mountain Challenge 2009 takes place on Saturday August 22 where volunteers will climb Mayo's highest three peaks — Mweelrea (814m), Croagh Patrick (764m), and Nephin (806m), all in one day for Cancer Action Mayo.
