Six Galway Ladies’ Football championship deciders provided a feast of action at the weekend.

Over the past two months 15 teams have been taking part in an u-10 county football league which comes to a head on Saturday in Belclare pitch starting at 10am. The cup competition was presented by the Kilkerrin/Clonberne club five years ago with different clubs taking charge of the running of the competition, and for the past two years Corofin Ladies Football Club has hosted the event. As a result of sponsorship from Elite Oil Products Ltd Belclare, Corofin Ladies Football has been able to enhance the competition by introducing a shield competition. The two semi-finals will see Group A winners Salthill take on Group B runnrs-up Tuam/Cortoon, and Group B winners Corofin take on Group A runners-up Claregalway. The Elite Oil Shield and Kilkerrin/Clonberne Cup finals take place at 11.15am.

A decade on and the passion for the game burns as bright as ever in Corofin. It is hard to fathom that it is 10 and a half years since Ray Silke climbed the Hogan Stand steps breathing life back into Galway football as Corofin were crowned All Ireland club kings on a nippy St Patrick’s afternoon in Drumcondra.

This Sunday in Tuam Stadium a Roscommon team that is beginning to improve and show some signs of unity and purpose under the stewardship of their great white managerial hope Fergal O'Donnell, take on Liam Sammon's exciting cocktail of youth and experience in the FBD league final.
