Galway rowers claim gold for Ireland

The Irish women’s junior 8 rowing team which won gold in Cardiff at the Home Countries International Regatta, beating England, Scotland, and Wales. Galway boasted seven rowers on the team. New proposals for Connacht Hurling Club championship

A novel idea has been mooted by the Connacht GAA Council in a bid to promote hurling in the province, and it could come into being next season. The council have proposed that the Galway senior hurling champions no longer take part in a Connacht senior club championship that also features the Roscommon and Mayo champions. “Our plan is that the Roscommon and Mayo champions take part in the Connacht intermediate club championship, along with the Galway intermediate champions,” said council secretary John Prenty.

Ramble around Connemara

The Galway Walking Club will hold its 12th annual marathon on the Western Way in Connemara on Saturday August 9. Registration will take place from 7am on the day at the Community Centre, Maum Bridge, Connemara before walkers are transported by bus departing at 8am sharp to the starting point approximately six miles west of Leenane at Our Lady of the Wayside Church.

On Wednesday July 30 a 25 card game will take place in the Turlough Community Centre, Castlebar and a Tea Day will be held at the Irish Wheelchair Association, Logmore, Belmullet, on Thursday July 31.
