Jobs saved as Ashford Castle is bought by Red Carnation Hotels

One hundred and sixty jobs have been maintained in the west as Ashford Castle, Cong, was sold this week following a global marketing process by joint receivers Ernst & Young and selling agent Savills. The new owner, Red Carnation Hotels, has exchanged contracts on the historic five star property and plans to operate the hotel as a leading branded hotel.

New gallery in Cong hosts inaugural exhibition

“The Ten Cross Painters” is the title of an inaugural exhibition of paintings in Cong Art Gallery. The exhibition which runs from Saturday June 16 until Saturday June 30, and the official opening will take place at 7.30pm on Saturday June 16 in the gallery. The Ten Cross Painters is the name of a group that meets in John Dinan’s studio in Cross once a month. “To learn and continue learning, and each fulfil a lifetime dream of becoming skilled, imaginative artists, enjoying every moment while striving to work at their full potential,” according to Dinan. Two of the artists are Mayo residents, Noelle Angley from Westport and Louise Conroy form Cong. Cong Art Gallery opens from 11am to 5pm every day during the exhibition including Sundays.

Community centre fundraising drama in Cong

The Other Abbey Players present A Spot of Murder by Geoff Bamberin in the Lodge at Ashford, Cong, from Thursday March 29 to Saturday March 31. The performance kicks off at 8.30pm each night. Tickets cost €10 and for more information call 086 2251511 or 086 1630818. All proceeds are in aid of the Cong Community Centre.
