Just last Friday Kilkenny made history when the Church of Ireland installed the first ever female Dean of Ossory at St Canice’s Cathedral. The skeletal remains of the Great Famine (1845-50) victims which were discovered in unmarked graves during excavation work (2005) at the former Kilkenny County Council property were returned to MacDonagh Junction recently.

The restored Norman castle, the only one of its kind in Ireland, should be your next stop. Nearby is also a beautifully preserved Dominican priory dating from 1241, and the original market cross.
