Ballinrobe Town Hall project is looking for local support

A target of €400,000 in business and private contributions has been set by the campaign to rebuild Ballinrobe Town Hall. Locals have been urged to support the effort to build a town hall on the site where the previous one existed from 1886 to 1996. Byrne outlines urgent need for channel at Cahermore to be extended

Flooding was on the agenda again at Monday’s meeting of Galway County Council, with Kinvara Councillor Joe Byrne calling for the immediate progressing of the channel in Cahermore. A channel was constructed in the townland between Ardrahan and Kinvara in January during the height of the flooding, but it has been agreed by all that to alleviate South Galway’s flooding issues in the long-term, it needs to be deepened and lengthened.

Mayo photographers take home awards at IPPA Awards

Two Mayo photographers took home awards at the 2016 IPPA Awards which were held in Dublin last Sunday. Ballina based photographer David Farrell won the Best Press and Photojournalism Photographer 2016 award, and Westport based snapper Michael McLaughlin took home the Best Landscape Photographer 2016 gong. McLaughlin also won the Single Image Award on the night at the ceremony which was held in Radisson Blu Hotel, Golden Lane, Dublin.
