Castlebar radio station receives national awards

Two programmes on CRCfm have been honoured with awards at a special Craol National Community radio event in Dublin. Katie’s Hitmix received a distinction award for the promotion of young local musicians. The programme, presented by Katie Hughes from Attymass, a second year student of video and sound technology at Limerick Institute of Technology, is broadcast every Saturday afternoon from 4 to 6pm on the Castlebar based radio station. In their remarks, the adjudicators said the programme ably showcases the wealth of young musical talent in Mayo, promoting the best of the local music scene.

Castlebar pair are the first to graduate as a jewellery experts in Ireland

Last week Sabrina Cunningham and Regina Kerrane, both living in Castlebar, graduated with the first wave of jewellery experts in Ireland. The Retail Jewellers of Ireland teamed up with the Company of Goldsmiths to present certificates to 11 graduates. These graduates become the first to have the knowledge and experience to work and sell jewellery in Ireland. Presenting the certificates in Dublin Castle was the assay master, Ana Izquierdo.

Schoolchildren to pedal to safety through Castlebar

Almost 200 schoolchildren will pedal their way through the streets of Castlebar on Thursday next May 19  in a novel road safety campaign. Specially trained Garda cyclists and cycle instructors will pass on road safety skills that could help to keep the children safe and alive on the nation's roads.

Two gorgeous top family shows and a pair of family workshops take place at the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar in April. Monkeyshine Theatre presents The Magic Bookshop on Saturday April 16 with performances at 11am, 12.15pm, 1.45pm and 3pm. Peter and John do their very best to make sure every book gets a new life and that none of the magic is lost. Step inside this unusual shop, swap a book and maybe even take a little of the magic home with you. Audiences are invited to bring gently used books to swap. Previous Monkeyshine productions have been described as “magical”, “delightful” and “a treat for all ages”. The show is suitable for five-year-olds and their families, with a duration 30 minutes.
