Last Friday saw DNG Maxwell Heaslip & Leonard bring nine lots to the floor in the first of its summer auctions. In a packed auction room in the Imperial Hotel in Eyre Square, there was standing room only for many who attended to watch the afternoon’s proceedings. As is usual with the city centre based agents, there was an eclectic mix of properties, with something to suit all buyers from across the spectrum. While, unusually, only one of the nine lots offered to the room sold under the hammer, a further four lots sold directly after the auction, with three more of the lots still under negotiation but expected to sell by the end of the week.

Colleran’s auction smashes expectations

Property prices in Galway city certainly seemed to have turned the corner following Colleran auctioneers’ recent auction, with properties selling for well in excess of their reserves. With the auction room full to capacity and many standing outside, Don Colleran advised the room that in certain parts of the city demand now far outweighed supply and that there would be many disappointed under bidders at the auction, but he could not have predicted what was to follow, particularly with his Claddagh property.

Great results for Colleran’s auction

Colleran auctioneers continued its auction success last week when not alone did all properties sell, but they all sold well in excess of their advised minimum value. “These results certainly reflect what we have been seeing over the last number of months for properties in and around the city,” said Don Colleran. “There continues to be a demand for properties in the established residential areas of the town once properly priced, and this was certainly the case with our auction, with five to six bidders chasing each property, resulting in all exceeding their guide, one by almost 50 per cent.”

O’Donnellan & Joyce once again proved the phenomenal interest that there is in properties which are well priced being sold at auction when the company placed 12 properties under the hammer last Friday in the auction room. Ten of these were sold at or well above their guide price.
