Two year ban for man brought from Cloonfad to Castlebar for testing

A 29 year old Ballyhaunis man was given a two year driving ban after pleading guilty to drink driving in Ballyhaunis District Court this week. Garda Leslie McMaster told the court that he stopped Michael Burke of Tullaghane, Ballyhaunis, at Curragh, Cloonfad, at 1am on the night of September 28 2008. He arrested him on suspicion of drunk driving and conveyed him to Castlebar Garda Station where McMaster gave a breath sample which gave a reading of 52mg of alcohol per 100ml of breath.

Man warned it’s prison next if convicted for driving offences again

A Ballyhaunis man who was convicted for drink driving, and has a history of previous driving convictions dating back from 1991 to 2003 for drink driving and having no insurance, was given a five year driving ban and a €1,000 fine after being convicted of drunk driving this week.

John Byrne wins Maugherow 10k

John Byrne was the clear winner of the Maugherow 10k on Sunday in 33.33. The race was run over a picturesque figure of eight course on the north Sligo coast, from the local church to the causeway with a tough second half and an uphill finish. Lucy Brennan (Sligo AC) was first woman in 38.08, less than two weeks after her victory in the Cork Marathon. Mayo AC's Andrew Lynskey was third in 36.34. Tom Hunt 40.36, PJ Hall 42.25, Ann Murray 45.07, Christy O'Malley 46.05, Sarah Syron 48.50 all had good workouts on a humid afternoon. Other finishers included Breege Staunton and Fit4Life participants Chris Clarke, Clare Walshe from Claremorris, and Michelle Reynolds from Ballina.

Judge asks man if he wants to go home like ET

A Lithuanian man who said he just wanted to go home was this week asked by Judge Mary Devins in Claremorris District Court, “You want to go home like ET?” Ricardis Belickes, 38 Ashling Drive, Ballyhaunis, replied “No, I want to go home to Ballyhaunis.”
