Family fun day and famous footballers at JJ Burke Car Sales tomorrow

JJ Burke Car Sales, Ballinrobe, is always a great supporter of Mayo football and to kick off the championship season the company is having a fun family afternoon on Saturday from 12 noon to 2pm. All are welcome along to the JJ Burke Car Sales showroom where you will be greeted by players from the Mayo Senior football team who are starting their championship campaign on the Sunday, May 21, against the winners of New York v Sligo game. Players from the team will be available for signatures and photos, as well as the triumphant Ballinrobe Community School who won the All Ireland Schools final recently. Children will enjoy family fun with characters from the popular TV show Paw Patrol as well as face painting and goodie bags.

Mayo slimmers lose incredible 24.5 tons in 2016

Super slimmers in Mayo have lost a whopping 54013.25lbs (that’s 3858 stone or 24.5 tons) in weight – that’s the equivalent of 18 cars. Altogether the members of the Ballina, Ballinrobe, Ballyhaunis, Castlebar, Claremorris, Westport, and Swinford Slimming World groups are now 54013lbs lighter than they were at the beginning of 2016.

The ninth edition of the annual spring Ballinrobe run bike run event was hailed as the best yet despite the cold wet conditions, a change to the first run meant all participants had 1.5k extra to cover, there were bigger gaps than normal between the bikers which made for a harder event.

Fundraising drive to be launched for Ballinrobe Town Hall

There was good news in Ballinrobe last Friday when Mayo County Council granted planning permission for the rebuilding of Ballinrobe Town Hall. It is full steam ahead now for the project with a major focus on securing public, private, and community funding to make the hall a reality. The old hall was knocked in 1999 for safety reasons.

Rochford's relishing the challenge

It's been a hectic month or so for new Mayo manager Stephen Rochford. The Crossmolina native who resides in Ballinrobe was appointed as the Mayo senior manager at the start of December and since then it's been all go for him. The Mayo Advertiser spoke to him this week and asked him has it been what he's expected it would be so far?

Rochford the sole nominee for senior job

There was just one nominee for the vacant position Mayo GAA senior team manager. Nominations for the post closed on Sunday evening and the only nomination recieved was for Stephen Rochford. The Crossmolina native was nominated by his home club Crossmolina Deel Rovers and by Ballinrobe GAA clubs (Rochford lives in Ballinrobe).

A crowd of more than 100 people turned up to the latest Connacht Property Auction held last Thursday in The Menlo Park Hotel. In total there were 22 properties offered for sale from across Connacht including Clare, Galway, Mayo, and Leitrim.
