Western Lakes enrolment night

On Thursday January 21 anyone interested in taking up cycling from the south Mayo/north Galway area can come to the cycling centre on the Kilmaine Road, Ballinrobe, between 6.30pm and 8.30pm and sign up as Western Lakes cycling club members. Westport suffering worst unemployment increases in Mayo

Unemployment is rising at an alarming rate in Westport where there are now 1,768 on the live register. The scenic town saw the largest percentage growth in unemployment in the county last month. The December figures show there has been a hike of 9.1 per cent or 147 on the November returns for Westport, and the situation has been described as “very worrying” by Dáil Deputy and Fine Gael spokesperson on Community, Rural and Gaeltacht affairs, Michael Ring.
