Man ordered to pay €600 for operating illegal taxi

A Claremorris man was fined €600 and given the benefit of the probation act in Ballinrobe District Court last week after he pleaded guilty to acting as an illegal taxi driver. The court heard that John McHugh, Caltragh, Claremorris, picked up two women on the night of August 30 2008 at a pub in Hollymount and dropped them off at another pub in Ballyglass. When the women realised the next day that McHugh was not a legal taxi they made a complaint to the gardaí. When they spoke to McHugh he admitted to the charge.

A mother of seven, who had her four-year-old unrestrained in the back of her car, was disqualified from driving for six months and fined €300 at Castlebar District Court on Wednesday.

Internal meeting of council to discuss Ballinrobe local area plan

The delay in adopting a local area plan for Ballinrobe has thrown a number of local developments into jeopardy. It’s been 12 years since the current plan was adopted and the process of selecting a preferred route for the proposed Ballinrobe bypass has delayed the process of adopting a new plan.
