On November 5, a fashion show will take place at Ballinrobe Community School at 8pm.

Ballinrobe Musical Society have launch their new production for 2011, the revised world première of Come The Dawn, written and composed by Peter Kennedy. Kennedy has been with the society for some 13 years as producer/choreographer; however this will be the first time the society has undertaken one of Peter's own shows. As the society had been so warmly received and rewarded for the efforts of The Pirate Queen earlier this year, it was felt that it was important to continue telling our stories.

Congratulations to Mayo RSTA members Carmel Heneghan and Muriel McNicholas, who were both elected to the National Executive of the Retired Secondary Teachers Association.

A number of priests in Mayo are moving on to new parishes in the latest clerical changes just announced by the Archbishop of Tuam, Dr Michael Neary.

XxxAs the Pirate Queen gets ready to depart from Ballinrobe, the town and surrounding areas know that what they witnessed in the Ballinrobe Community School hall, if they were fortunate enough to do so, was simply stunning.

The winners of the Pirate Queen art competition, in conjunction with the forthcoming production by Ballinrobe Musical Society, have been announced:

The penny pinching by the Government in last week’s budget will have a detrimental effect on the education of young people, according to two Mayo secondary school principals. Ioseph McGowen, principal of Davitt College, Castlebar told the Mayo Advertiser earlier this week: “It will seriously affect the way we run the school and it will make it nearly impossible to keep it running to the high standards we have set for ourselves.” With bigger class sizes being a reality for schools, Mr McGowen is worried that it will affect the quality of teaching that the students will get. “Having bigger class sizes is no good for either the students or the teachers, we’re looking at loosing between one and two teachers here which will lead to less subject choices for both the Leaving and Junior Certificates.”

The students of Ballinrobe Community School are busily preparing for their annual school musical. This year the Transition Year students ably assisted by the second year choir are staging that timeless musical The Sound of Music. The story of Maria and the Von Trapp family is told through songs such as “My Favourite Things”, “Do – Re – Mi” and “Edelweiss”, just to mention a few.
