Mayo Associations plan big convention weekend in Belmullet

The Mayo Association World Convention from the April 29 to May 1 taking place in Erris offers something for everyone. Mayo Association Dublin invites people to meet the Canadian Ambassador, His Excellency, Kevin Vickers at the dinner on the Friday evening. Following the dinner, entertainment will be provided by the Sylvan Kelly School of Dancing from Ballina, a supremely talented group of dancers who are the current holders of three world titles and 47 world medals won at the 2016 World Irish Dancing Championships in Glasgow last month.

€2 million boost for Mary Robinson Centre

An Taoiseach Enda Kenny this week confirmed that the cabinet had approved €2 millon for the proposed Mary Robinson Centre in Ballina. The centre which will be built in Victoria House in Ballina, Mary Robinson’s birthplace on the banks of the River Moy, will be Ireland’s first Presidential Archive. Mayo County Council had provided an initial €1.5 million package to purchase the house and included the site next door and the construction of a new annex on the site

Retailers in Ballina Municipal District urged to take up new facade improvement scheme

Business people in the towns of Ballina, Ballycastle, Bonniconlon, Foxford, Crossmolina, Killala, and Swinford are being urged to take up the grant aid that is available to them to make improvements to their shop fronts under a recently adopted Traditional Facades Grant Scheme. The scheme was adopted by the members of the Ballina Municipal District at their October meeting on Wednesday this week.

Irish Water hosts meeting in Ballina to update on the Watermains Rehabilitation

A meeting took place in Ballina today (Thursday, September 17)  with representatives from Irish Water, Mayo County Council, elected representatives and Ballina Chamber of Commerce to discuss the emergency watermains rehabilitation works which are being fast tracked by Irish Water.

The Journey

The loudspeaker crackled and spluttered for a good 10 seconds or more until finally a voice announced the train from Ballina to Dublin would be running 30 minutes late. The news was greeted with cheers and whistles by us Mayo supporters packed together on the platform. We had come from all around the area, men, women and children all wearing the county colours and all determined that nothing was going to spoil our trip to ‘Headquarters’ to see Mayo play Kerry in the All Ireland final.

Renowned and inspirational singer Liam Lawton comes to Ballina

Preparations are under way for the widely acclaimed multi-platinum and award winning singer Fr Liam Lawton who is performing in St Patrick’s Church, Ballina, on Friday August 28 at 8.30pm. The Catholic priest, working in the diocese of Kildare & Leighlin south of Dublin, is widely admired in religious and non-religious circles nationally and internationally. Some of his most famous compositions such as ’The Clouds’ Veil’ and ‘The Hiding Place’ are performed at many religious ceremonies throughout the world.
