Calleary questions why Ballina does not have driver’s licence facility

Ballina-based Dáil Deputy Dara Calleary has questioned why there is no driver’s licence centre in Ballina despite the fact that the headquarters of the Road Safety Authority is located in the town. The Fianna Fáil Deputy said it makes no sense that the RSA, which operates the new driver’s license system, does not allow drivers to get their licences from the Ballina facility.

Man still being questioned in Castlebar double murder probe

Gardaí investigating the murder of two brothers in their home on New Antrim Street in the early hours of Wednesday morning continued questioning a 26-year-old man yesterday evening (Thursday). At the time of going to print the man had not been charged but was being detained at Castlebar Garda Station under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act where he could be questioned for up to 24 hours. It is believed he has lived in Ballina and and more recently in Castlebar and is known to the gardaí and the psychiatric services.

Charity dog show in aid of North West SPCA

North West SPCA is a registered charity based in Ballina but which works throughout Mayo and the northwest area. The organisation is made up of a group of volunteers who give their free time to the care and rescue of sick, abused, and abandoned animals including dogs, cats, horses, donkeys, farm animals, and wildlife.
