Mayo get Longford in the qualifiers

Mayo's road to possible redemption has seen them drawn with Longford in the first round of the qualifiers. The draw which took place on Sunday evening, pits John O'Mahony's dethroned Connacht champions against the midlands men who were knocked out of the Lenister championship by Louth in Portlaoise.

For the second in row Mayo started off the National League with a defeat at the hands of Derry, this time in James Stephen’s Park last Sunday. While both sides hit 10 scores the decisive score of the game came from Derry debutant James Kielt 45 minutes into the contest, who got on the end of move that came about as Tom Cunniffe lost possession trying to break out of defence.

The TV licence was worth paying for, if only to have had the benefit of sitting back last weekend to watch some of the greatest sporting moments of the summer. I have to be honest here, I felt rather guilty last Sunday evening having spent the majority of the previous two days watching hurling, football, golf and boxing. I am a farmer’s son and the guilt kicks in automatically if I spend any bit of time indoors on a fine day!
