Top traditional musicians Mick O’Brien, Aoife Ní Bhriain, and Mayo’s own Emer Mayock present a night of Tunes from the Goodman Manuscripts at the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar on Thursday June 20 at 8pm.

Music Generation Mayo, part of Music Generation, Ireland’s national music education programme, funded by U2 and the Ireland Funds together with local partners, is offering an opportunity to experienced young traditional musicians and singers with a high standard of playing ability to form a traditional music ensemble. Participants, to be aged between 12 and 18 years, will participate in a six month music residency under the guidance and mentorship of acclaimed Mayo musician and performer Emer Mayock. The residency will culminate in a live performance opportunity by the ensemble in June 2013.

At last Friday night’s Belle of Breaffy competition organised by Breaffy ladies GAA Club which was part of the Breaffy Blast Festival held in the village, Aoife Connaughton was crowned the Belle of Breaffy. As part of the competition, Aoife recited a poem she had written in tribute to the late Carmel Jordan who sadly passed away this summer.
