The opening of Briarhill Veterinary Clinic in Briarhill Business Park on Monday has been welcomed by the owners of small animals in Galway city and county and further afield. It is a veterinary practice dedicated to the welfare of dogs, cats, and other small animals, ideally located for easy access, opposite DID Electrical, and with ample parking space.

Mayo SPCA is appealing this week for a home for Cody, a young, fairly large male dog, who is neutered, healthy, and had his first vaccination. He has a lovely temperament, is house trained, very obedient for his age, and excellent on recall, walks well on a lead although needs reminding not to pull from time to time, loves other dogs and playing with them. Because of his size they are looking for a home with older children as he could easily knock toddlers off their feet when playing ball, etc. He would also be an ideal companion pet for anyone living alone.

World Animal Week in Galway

An event that helps to raise awareness of animal welfare and the work of welfare groups in Ireland will run next week from Monday October 4.

Animals at risk due to cold snap

The Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ISPCA) has called on pet owners to be particularly vigilant of their animals during the current cold snap to avoid cases of unnecessary suffering. The ISPCA has witnessed many cases of neglect and cruelty in recent weeks due to the adverse weather conditions and it is offering advice to people to ensure animals are not placed at risk.
