Stevie Wonder visits Mullingar?

A man who couldn’t decide whether his name was Stevie Wonder or Patricia when asked to provide his name to gardaí has been fined €200.

Andrew Mullan of Eglinton, Derry pleaded guilty to public intoxication and failure to provide his name and address when approached by gardaí after he walked out in front of traffic on Pearse Street on January 11.

He was extremely intoxicated and unsteady on his feet. Mr Louis Kiernan said his client had been  celebrating with his family who live in Milltownpass and had “given names which clearly weren’t his own.”

“Let’s put it this way, he has aspirations,” said the judge, though he said he wasn’t clear what the aspirations were when he called himself Patricia.

“Is she a long lost love?” he asked the Derryman who shook his head.

“Now Stevie, off you go. We’ll be looking forward to seeing you on TV,” quipped a grinning Judge Neilan as he fined the 30-year-old €100 on each charge.
