Four die in crash

Gardaí continue their appeal for witnesses to a fatal car crash on the N4 just outside Mullingar on Saturday morning, June 28, in which three women and a child lost their lives.

Fawny Akenbor (45 ), her cousin Queenent Esezobor (43 ), along with Pat Jeeti (42 ) and her 10-year-old daughter Jessica Jeeti are believed to have been travelling from Dublin to their home in Longford town on Saturday morning after an overnight evangelical prayer meeting in Dublin. The four females, originally from Nigeria, were living in the Clonbalt Woods area of the town.

At approximately 7.45am their car collided head-on with a jeep on the N4 at Portnashangan, outside Mullingar. All four were fatally injured in the crash and their bodies taken to the Midlands Regional Hospital, Mullingar.

The male driver of the jeep, who is in his 50s and from Mullingar, received minor injuries and was brought to Midlands Regional Hospital, Mullingar. He was later discharged.

Anyone who may have seen anything suspicious on the Mullingar to Edgeworthstown stretch of the N4 between 7.15-7.45am on Saturday morning, June 28 is asked to come forward.

They are particularly interested in hearing from anyone who may have observed a gold-coloured Nissan Almera (03 registration ) or a black Kia Sorento jeep (06 registration ) to contact Mullingar Garda Station on (044 ) 9384000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 11, or any Garda station.
