Forthcoming classes and craic for Áras an Mhuilinn announced

If anybody included improving their linguistic skills on their new year’s resolution list, then solace can be found at the top of the Jail Hill in the Áras an Mhuilinn facility at the Mullingar Arts Centre over the coming months.

“If you fancy learning a language or taking up a new activity in 2014, Áras an Mhuilinn has plenty to offer,” said Áras administrator, Rhona Rogers Whearty.

She went on to explain that it’s not just na cúpla focail that’s available to those seeking to self-improve, as the Áras also provides lessons in elocution, art, French, traditional music, and dance over the coming months.

There will be Irish language classes for adults each Wednesday morning at 11am, with an Irish club for the under-12s that afternoon from 4.30pm.

Each Friday Spleodar - an Irish Club for teenagers - will meet at 7pm, while Irish grinds for Leaving Cert students are to resume in mid-February.

Mullingar CCÉ branch will be running music classes every Thursday evening, offering lessons for a variety of instruments at different levels, and if you want to combine a bit of fun with exercise, set dancing classes are on Monday nights from 7.30pm, with sean nós classes starting back on January 21 at 7.30pm, and continuing each Tuesday evening.

Classes in conversational French will be held for adults each Thursday at 11am, whilst elocution, grammar, and art classes with Olive Whelan will be held for children each Saturday morning from 9.30am.

Special events in Áras an Mhuilinn this month include a seisiún with the new ‘Singing Circle’ on Wednesday January 15 for everybody, while on Friday January 31 there is to be a céili with ‘Rise the Dust’ for just a €10 cover charge.
