E-working Centre to open in September

The proposed E-working Centre in Mullingar took a step forward on Tuesday this week with a visit from Minister of State Alan Kelly and an update on the council’s plans for the centre.

Cathaoirleach of Westmeath County Council Johnnie Penrose welcomed the Minister, while the council’s director of services Barry Kehoe offered Minister Kelly a guided tour of the E-working Centre. The facility is expected to be open in September and will provide an opportunity for people who currently travel to work in Dublin or other locations to work closer to home.

The council has received 60 expressions of interest to date for the centre’s workspace, which features communications and IT systems in an office environment, as well as use of the council’s ancillary facilities such as meeting rooms and tele/video conferencing.

Mr Kehoe told the Minister that approximately 4,500 people currently travel out of the county to work every day, and that the E-working Centre would save people considerable time and money.

Some €10,000 worth of work remains to be done on the centre, which is expected to be complete by the end of August.
