Circuit Court for drugs charges

A 20-year-old man has been sent forward to the Circuit Court where he faces charges of possession of drugs worth €150,000 with intent to sell or supply.

Adam Arnold was found to be in possession of heroin and cocaine at Kinnegad on March 5 this year.

Arnold, with an address at Hightown, Coralstown, Kinnegad was reluctantly granted senior as well as junior counsel by Judge Neilan who questioned whether it was right that the defence should have “a stronger team than the prosecution who act at the suit of the people of Ireland”.

Ms Patricia Cronin argued that in cases such as Mr Arnold’s, it is normal to grant senior counsel and stated that it was a matter for the State and the State solicitor, Mr Peter Jones to consider whether the prosecution should also have senior counsel.

Mr Arnold will appear before the February sitting of the Circuit Court and was ordered to surrender his passport as a condition of bail.
