Mullingar aims to become call centre hub

A new course has been launched by Mullingar Chamber of Commerce with the aim of helping to market Mullingar as a “call centre hub”.

A new Call Centre, Teleservices, and Customer Care programme has been developed by the Chamber, in conjunction with Westmeath Community Development, which will offer participants the opportunity to earn a recognised FETAC qualification.

The course has been specifically designed for people who are currently unemployed and looking to upskill in order to secure a job in this thriving sector.

“The call centre sector is growing at a rapid rate, and the skills required to enter this profession can be attained over 10 weeks by simply contacting Westmeath Community Development and registering your interest. On completion of the course participants will be fully trained to enter the fast-paced call centre environment with a recognised FETAC qualification to add to their CV,” said a spokesperson for Mullingar Chamber.

It is hoped the course will also help to develop Mullingar as “the Call Centre Hub of Ireland”.

“With Mullingar’s close proximity to the capital we are in a unique position to capture the attention of investors with our abundance of affordable office space, excellent road and rail networks, affordable houses, and now highly trained call centre operatives eager to work,” said the chamber spokesperson.

“It was with this in mind that both Mullingar Chamber and Westmeath Community Development, with the support of the management at FBD’s award-winning call centre, to develop a unique course which would encompass the exact and specific requirements of a call centre operative and train participants to the highest standard to meet the varied demands of a busy call centre whilst providing excellent customer service.”

The first course started on Tuesday October 9 in Mullingar and participants are enjoying the fun and interactive format of the course provided by tutor Gillian Mullan.
