Do your bit for litter blitz

A clean-up morning takes place in Mullingar this Saturday August 6 from 10am til noon, and all are welcome to come along and take part in making their town a better place to live and work.

Anyone interested in volunteering their time for a couple of hours is asked to meet in Market Square on Saturday morning at 10am, where supplies including high visibility jackets and litter pickers will be distributed.

The clean-up will focus on removing litter from the town centre, including back streets, as well as the canal area and other areas of concern.

Residents’ associations and other local groups will also be carrying out clean-ups in estates and residential areas of the town.

The event is being organised in conjunction with Mullingar Tidy Towns, Westmeath County Council, the Royal Canal Amenity Group, and Mullingar Chamber.

The aim is to get the whole community together and to encourage people to take pride in their town, and it is the first time a clean-up on such a wide scale is to be undertaken in Mullingar.

Chairperson of Mullingar Tidy Towns committee, Brian Reidy, said he hoped as many people as possible would respond to the call for participation in the clean-up.

He added that he is looking forward to work starting on the ‘Tranquility Park’ which is to be located at the County Buildings.
