Homeless woman makes progress after attending resource centre

A woman who had been living rough in a container is now making good progress within a family resource centre, Mullingar District Court has heard.

Sgt William Tooher said that Kate Collins, who had an address at Clonmullen Hall in Edenderry spent some time living in a container at the side of the road.

She has since completed an alcohol treatment course at Cuan Mhuire in Athy, Kildare.

The sergeant arrested her after she broke a window at Donnelly’s pub on Main Street, Kinnegad on June 18 this year.

She had been drinking beer from a can, the sergeant said, but she then decided she wanted a glass and became annoyed when she was refused one in the pub and asked to leave.

As she walked out, she struck a pane of glass in the door, causing €40 damage.

The sergeant agreed with solicitor Robert Marren that she had been “a little bit worse for wear” at the time.

She has previous public order and assault convictions, mostly from Offaly.

Judge Anderson requested a probation report and Collins will appear before the court again in March.
