Mullingar man to remain in custody

A Mullingar man was remanded in custody to Cloverhill Prison to appear at Mullingar Court on October 9, at that court last week.

James Collins (23 ), with addresses at Derravaragh and Belvedere Hills, is charged with escaping from lawful custody on September 19 last, and being intoxicated and using or engaging in threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with intent to provoke a breach of the peace at Belvedere Hills, on August 10 last.

Inspector Jarlath Folan sought the continuing remand in custody, as the file is currently being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions. He added that it is likely that there would be more serious charges. Mr John Quinn, solicitor, was assigned to the defendant on free legal aid. Ms Patricia Cronin, solicitor, requested that the DPP's directions be sought as soon as possible given that the defendant is in custody
